Don’t you trust me, Plato?

I wonder if it was intentional that he looks like one of Raphael’s cherubs?

I recently tweeted (https://twitter.com/paulshipper/statuses/245256885731733505) about the fact that my Avengers illustration was actually created on my iPad last week using a great drawing and painting app called SketchBook Pro by AutoDesk

Well, the SketchBook Pro team at AutoDesk saw it and wanted to do a little feature on me and the illustration process.

Head over to the SketchBook News Blog to read more about the creation of the artwork that never actually made it to the drawing board!

Europe’s Wild Men (Rachel Hartigan Shea)

Photographer Charles Fréger set out to capture what he calls “tribal Europe” over two winters of travel through 19 countries. The forms of the costumes that he chronicled vary between regions and even between villages. In Corlata, Romania, men dress as stags reenacting a hunt with dancers. In Sardinia, Italy, goats, deer, boars, or bears may play the sacrificial role. Throughout Austria, Krampus, the beastly counterpart to St. Nicholas, frightens naughty children.

They should do this on Game of Thrones!

O.M.G.

I am so freaking obsessed with the new movie “Hyperbole.” I mean like seriously! If it doesn’t just come out tomorrow, I’m going to just die. I can’t even wait!!! It’s like, going to be the MOST AMAZING thing, like, EVER! I’m getting in line for tickets yesterday because I’m willing to wait, even if it frickin’ snows every single day until I get them. I’ve already watched the trailer like a million times and I’ll probably watch it a million more. I tried to go online to buy a poster, but I swear I’m gonna have to go to a bus stop and steal one because I need one so badly. Aaaaaaarrrrggghhh!!!

(Seriously folks… Settle down.)

Diego Stocco - Duet for Leaves & Turntable from Diego Stocco on Vimeo.

Recently I bought a turntable to use it for an experiment, but that didn’t turn out as I was expecting.
Then, I noticed the equally spaced ridges on the plate and got an idea for something else.

For about an hour I recorded short musical phrases by rubbing leaves against the turntable (the type of leaf, angle, pressure and fold determined the sound), then I combined the different takes together. Every element comes from those recordings, including the bass, kick and snare sounds (shaped with EQ, compression and resonators).

If you’d like to see more of my musical projects based on trees and other natural ingredients here’s “Music from a Tree” bit.ly/9hRhB2 and “Music from Nature” bit.ly/ID6Vow Enjoy! : )

MAAAAAANNNNNnnnnnn!!!
