I have a feeling there’s going to be a LOT of flashback-style storytelling using different mediums - I first realized this when I saw all the ‘Hologram Engineers’ - regarding those, I am assuming that David finds the Temple’s ‘black box’ telling what happened to the earlier group of engineers - we also know that Shaw (and her parents) appear in flashbacks, and let’s not forget that the Weyland TEDTalk happened 70+ years prior to the events of the film. Perhaps these 2 ship designs are representative of that same flashback device… (or they could just represent earlier/unfinished effects… Who knows.)
